Anita Joy

Where were you born, and how was life growing up?
Anita Joy I was born and raised in South New Jersey, half and hour between both Philadelphia and Ocean City. I grew up in a small town called Newfield which I still visit today when I return home. Life growing up was kind of crazy for me because I had a very loving yet very strict Christian family. Needless to say my parents and I butt heads for many years. Fortunately we have mended many of those difficulties and are very close nowadays. I have two older brothers whom I love and respect dearly. They have been and will always be best friends to me.

What is your ethnicity?
Anita Joy I have a very mixed ethnicity of European heritage however my most cherished is my Native American heritage. On my mother’s side I have Cherokee and Blackfoot blood. I have always connected most with this heritage and it is the reason behind my Native American tattoos.

What would the average person say about you?
Anita Joy I would hope only good things! Those who know me on a more personal level know me for who I am instead of the initial reaction of my outward appearance. I’m sure there are many different thoughts and opinions people develop when they first meet me due to my unique look however for the most part I always receive a positive response for it which is greatly appreciated. I have a very big heart and am a very outgoing, spontaneous person.

What kind of stuff did you get into after high school?
Anita Joy I went to college for a year and a half but was dissatisfied with it as I felt like I was going through high school all over again and didn’t want to spend my 20’s in more schooling. I originally went to college to study to be a high school art teacher but soon decided more school wasn’t for me and dropped out to pursue my life as I intended.

How did you get into modeling?
Anita Joy Funny enough it’s all thanks to Myspace. When you’re not in the modeling industry you don’t notice it so much or perhaps that’s just how I was at the time. I always admired models in magazines and such but never pursued it for my own works. I started getting more interested in modeling and the idea of being a successful model when I was 18 as I saw more and more girls I knew getting into it and as I began realizing the creative potential in modeling work. Randomly one day a skateboard company called Swollen Skateboards contacted me about modeling for their company. I jumped at the opportunity and the photographer I shot with, Kaos Graffix and I became friends and started working together. From there I joined Model Mayhem, uploaded the best pictures I had at the time from that shoot and a couple others and things exploded from there.

How long have you been modeling?
Anita Joy Four years now.

How did you feel about being in front of the camera for the first time?
Anita Joy It was pretty crazy feeling at first but good - The photographer was really impressed and said I was a natural. It felt natural, like “Why haven’t I been doing this forever?!” I really got into it after that first shoot and couldn’t wait to continue doing more.

Anita Joy Very. I’ve been doing this for a long time now and am very comfortable with “working the camera” and with who is behind it! :)

Would you say that you are pretty comfortable with your body?
Anita Joy Yes. Every person has their doubts about being in their own skin sometimes but I have become more confident and appreciative of my own body over the years. You are who you are and who you make yourself be. I have a thin build but I too get out of shape and unhappy with my body however you need to be able to work with that and motivate yourself to do something about it.

I try my best to thrill my client with my work in every way and offer them the best in experience and product. I prepare myself for each photoshoot and bring to it energy and dedication.

Where do you hope your modeling will take you?
Anita Joy My modeling has already come very far for the 4 years that I have been doing it. I have been more serious about my work in the last 2 years really getting my work out there in publishing and such. I have always wanted to be in tattoo magazines and represent major clothing labels and I continue to accomplish those goals.

Where can we find you on a typical weekend, if you aren't doing a photoshoot?
Anita Joy If I’m not shooting I try to do other work to keep an income such as bartending or working modeling events (conventions, go-go dancing, etc.). If I do not have any work to do I love getting together with my friends and having a night out. Being amongst friends is always a great time.

What keeps you busy away from modeling?
Anita Joy Again aside from actual photoshoots I try to work a lot of other modeling related gigs. I also try to spend time on my other passion which is art (drawing and painting) and spending time with my closest friends.
